A Foundry Sea to Sky Film Series open to all ages. The perfect event for people who are interested in the films, want to learn more about Foundry Sea to Sky programs and services, or want a fun evening out. Date: April 23 Location: The Maury Young Theatre in Whistler, BC Time: 2-4pm Cost: Free, please register here Foundry Sea to Sky is excited to present this second movie night in our Foundry Film series. On the afternoon of Saturday April 23rd, one day after Earth Day, we will be gathering at the Maury Young Theatre in Whistler, BC to watch two short films about Climate Action and Environmental Stewardship. We will also be hearing from young leaders in the Sea to Sky region, and learning what young people are doing to take action in their communities. These screenings are gathering youth in anticipation of the Summer 2022 grand opening of our brand-new facility in Squamish. Our Foundry will offer health and wellness services to those aged 12-24. We will be operating the Youth Hub out of the Foundry facility, so that this will be a place where youth can meet for fun activities, recreation and special events. We'll be coordinating regular outreach programs and services throughout the corridor, and we want a chance to meet the youth who will be connecting with us, no matter what community you are in. About the films: On April 23rd, we're showing "Sam and Me", a 30-minute film by twin-tip skiing legend Mike Douglas, about his weekly training and planning sessions with 13-year-old Pemberton resident Sam Tierney. He helps Sam to improve his skiing skills while also transforming his acute climate anxiety into an action plan. We're honoured to also be showing "Walking with Plants", a 30-minute short by Squamish Nation ethnobotanist Leigh Joseph. Using gorgeous cinematography and heart-centered storytelling, this documentary takes us on a close-range tour of indigenous plants in our region. It is a sometimes difficult journey of reconnection for Leigh, as she shares knowledge that can lead to healing for her people. We'll be inviting Youth Ambassadors from the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre to speak about connection with the land through understanding its plant life. We will also welcome local youth leaders in environmental stewardship to speak from the stage before the films. Special guests Sam Tierney and Mike Douglas will be there to introduce their film in person. With this event, we are acknowledging that climate anxiety plays a role in young peoples' mental health, and that an environmental stewardship approach can help forge a path to hope for the future.
