YOUTH PEER SUPPORT
Peer Support refers to a process through which people who share common experiences or face similar challenges come together as equals to give and receive help based on the knowledge that comes through shared experience.Staff bring their lived experience to the role; they "get it" and provide perspective from someone who has been through it before.
The program is guided by a belief in the maturity and capability of youth; a commitment to taking youth as they are, instead of who you may want them to be; the goal to empower youth to find strategies that work for them; recognition of youth as experts in their own lives and recovery; the importance of lived experience as the foundation of youth peer support and the main connecting place between peers; listening to and learning from other young people; a desire to create community where youth can feel connected.
